The 25th Annual Austin Film Fest is happening in the ATX and the stars have been out on the red carpet and on the streets of Austin.
From Academy Award winner Natalie Portman to Entrourage‘s Vinny Chase himself, Adrian Grenier, to Pretty Little Liar Janel Parrish, here’s how celebrities spent their time in Austin.
Natalie Portman Loves South Congress
Natalie Portman spoke to Austin 360 about her love of vintage shopping on South Congress and gave Guero’s a shout out while on the red carpet for the opening night film Vox Lux. The Oscar winner is no stranger to Austin as she’s appeared in a few ATX shot films, including Where the Heart Is and Song to Song. The following day, she was spotted exactly where you’d expect – out on SoCo.
Adrian Grenier Loves Torchy’s
When we asked Adrian Grenier why he loves spending so much time in Austin, he quickly replied, “Other than the tacos?” He went on to say Torchy’s is his favorite taco place, before heading inside the Paramount for a screening of Beyond the Night, the film he executive produced.
Zane Holtz Loves Pinthouse Pizza
We also asked Zane Holtz about his favorite place to eat in Austin. After living here for three years, he discovered Pint House Pizza about a year ago and now frequents the restaurant. He also enjoys walking the lake and doing jiu-jitsu.
Peter Hedges Reminisces About Gilbert Grape
26 years ago, writer Peter Hedges’ novel was purchased to be made into a movie. Instead of shooting in Iowa, where the book is set, the movie was made right here in Austin and we can’t imagine it any other way. That movie is What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Hedges was at the fest to introduce Ben is Back, his new film starring son Lucan Hedges and Julia Roberts.
Frankie Muniz Gets His Hair Did at Redd’s Barbershop
Before heading to the festival for a screening of the film Black String, Frankie Muniz got his hair trimmed at Redd’s Barbershop. Apparently, it was his barber’s first day on the job.
Janel Parrish Celebrates Birthday in Austin
Janel Parrish, whom you may recognize from Pretty Little Liars, was at the fest for the film Tiger. Though it seems she didn’t get much time to experience the ATX (she told our pals at Shuffle Online that she wanted to visit Sixth Street), she did get to celebrate on the red carpet when she was surprised with balloons a few days shy of her 30th birthday.
Lane Garrison Loves Texas
Before doing interviews for the film The Iron Orchard, Garrison gathered all parties involved with the film for a massive red carpet picture. Following the photo op, the Dallas native declared, “Texas forever! Best God damn place.” Now a resident of Hutto, we chatted with him about his favorite places in Austin. He listed Ski Shores, Matt’s El Rancho and Perry’s Friday pork chops, ending with, “Louie Mueller barbecue, Taylor, Texas, check it out.”
Austin Nichols Loves Everything About Austin
Austin native Austin Nichols was also on the red carpet for The Iron Orchard. Asked about how it felt to be back in Austin at the festival, he said, “It’s the coolest thing that could happen.” He continued, saying that he loves this festival and that it’s “just one of the coolest festivals.” His first stop when he returns home to the ATX? Magnolia Cafe or Thundercloud Subs. Learn about his other faves in the clip below.
Timothy Chalamet Visits Torchy’s and Alamo Drafthouse
So this one didn’t actually happen AT the festival, but we felt compelled to include it anyway. Teen heart throb Timothy Chalamet attended a screening of Beautiful Boy at the Alamo Drafthouse on Saturday where he snapped this epic selfie with the crowd. Earlier in the day he noshed on fried avocado tacos at Torchy’s.
