By mid-May well, the broadcast networks will want to make some difficult calls as to which series will return for the 2019-20 Television season, and which… will not.
As that deadline inches closer, TVLine is singling out various “bubble” shows and sizing up their prospects — primarily based in huge aspect on their inventive strides (and stumbles) and future prospective, but also with a requisite nod to the cold, really hard Nielsen numbers.

THE SHOW I ABC’s Splitting Up With each other (Season two resumes Tuesday, March 19 at 9:30/eight:30c)
THE CASE FOR Maintaining | The sophomore season of this romcom from Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory) has been as sweet and swoon-worthy as its freshman run — and delivered on its guarantee of a
content ending new starting for Lena (played by Jenna Fischer) and Martin (Oliver Hudson), the meant-for-every single-other couple that didn’t study how to be married till they started coparenting immediately after deciding to divorce. In reality, the duo managed to get it so with each other that it didn’t look like they would go back to taking turns sleeping in the garage even immediately after they located out that his interim girlfriend had delivered the kids’ half sister. (Lena went so far as to cook and clean for the exhausted new mom!)
THE CASE FOR CUTTING | Thus far this season, Splitting Up With each other is averaging two.9 million total viewers and a .7 demo rating, down sharply from its spring 2018 run and delivering much less retention out of black-ish than it utilized to (82 % vs. 100 %). Season to date, it stands as ABC’s lowest-rated non-Friday sitcom, though delivering the second-smallest audience of any of the network’s laffers.
What’s extra, though we’re all in on Lena and Martin — and like their youngsters, particularly sensitive Mason (Van Crosby) — we’re a lot much less invested in the B-stories that are woven about the couple’s besties and Lena’s pregnant sister. So perhaps Lena and Martin’s new starting truly need to be a content ending to an all round great-but-not-terrific show that is run its course.
Vote beneath, then state your personal case for maintaining or cutting Splitting Up With each other.
