President Donald Trump didn’t want to play with the Philadelphia Eagles, anyway. He canceled the White Property take a look at from the Super Bowl champs — right after most of the group stated they weren’t going to show up.

The sudden, perplexing cancellation follows a proposed boycott from some members of the group more than the president’s insistence that players and coaches stand for the duration of the national anthem.

According to The New York Occasions, White Property officials noted that fewer than 10 group members have been locked in to attend the occasion on the South Lawn on Tuesday. So, Trump decided to ditch the complete factor.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White Property with their complete group to be celebrated tomorrow,” stated a statement issued by Trump.

“They disagree with the President mainly because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the excellent guys and ladies of our military and the folks of our nation.”

Trump’s statement says the Eagles “wanted to send a smaller sized delegation, but the 1,000 fans organizing to attend the occasion deserve greater.” The fans will nevertheless be invited to attend the White Property occasion, but … wait for it … for a “various kind of ceremony.”

Trump states the occasion will take location at the White Property at three p.m. on June five, with the U.S. Marine Band and the U.S. Army Chorus to “celebrate America.” The occasion will be “1 that will honor our excellent nation, spend tribute to the heroes who fight to shield it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem.”

Former Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith, who publicly stated he would not take a look at the White Property when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, hit back at the president on Twitter.

Mayor Jim Kenney of Philadelphia issued a statement in assistance of the Eagles, saying that if the White Property was going to disinvite the group, City Hall was “often open for a celebration.”

“Disinviting them from the White Property only proves that our President is not a accurate patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a celebration to which no 1 desires to attend,” he wrote.

“[The Eagles’] athletic accomplishments on the field led to an historic victory this year … I’m equally proud of the Eagles’ activism off the field. These are players who stand up for the causes they think in and who contribute in meaningful techniques to their neighborhood. They represent the diversity of our nation—a nation in which we are free of charge to express our opinions.”

Pennsylvania lawmakers have now invited the Eagles to take a look at the Capitol following Trump’s snub, reports The Hill
