A SOUTH African activist who spoke out against white farm attacks was battered to death with a hammer in her home.
Annette Kennealy, 51, was found face-down in a pool of blood and with multiple stab wounds in Limpopo on Tuesday morning.
A hammer and an iron rod were found next to her body.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested and will appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court, Marelo Media reports.
Ms Kennealy had been an outspoken supporter of the white Afrikaner community and a prominent farmer herself.
She had once been a councillor with the opposition party Democratic Alliance.
In her last Facebook post she shared a link that alleged 10 farm attacks had been reported in just four days, including one murder.
She’d also spoken out against government plans to allow land to be seized from white farmers without having to compensate them.
Under Section 25 of the constitution citizens have the right to property which could be seized but only upon payment of compensation.
Last year the government voted to amend the constitution to say that land could be taken without the need to pay compensation in certain circumstances.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the move will compensate for the imbalance caused by apartheid.
His party, the African National Congress, has denounced the violence against farmers.
72 per cent of the land in South Africa is owned by white people, who make up just nine per cent of the population, according to a 2017 census.
The Transvaal Agricultural Union recorded 84 farm murders, of which 59 were white farmers, in 2017.
15 people, including eight white farmers, were the victims of farm murders in just the first three months of 2018.
Democratic Alliance spokesperson said: “The DA asked for justice to be served on those responsible for her untimely and gruesome murder.

“Ms Kennealy served the DA as a councillor between the years 2011 and 2014 and will be remembered for her selfless service and her commitment towards human rights.
“The DA would further like to express sincere gratitude to the South African Police Service and community institutions for their swift and professional reaction.
“We hope that those responsible will soon have their days in court and that justice will be served.”
