Ariana Grande has teamed up with her tour mates, the Social Residence duo, for her new single, “Boyfriend.”
The song lyrically seemingly captures the anxiousness-filled limbo stage among casually dating somebody and producing the connection exclusive and official.
According to the 26-year-old singer, the new song is about enjoy trust and the worry of commitment.
“People want to really feel enjoy but do not want to define their connection & have problems completely committing or trusting or enabling themselves to completely enjoy somebody. Even tho they want to. We wanted to make one thing uplifting that captures that feeling of getting afraid to take the leap & trust, getting afraid of getting hurt or feeling like you will not be sufficient for that individual … but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on somebody.”
Back in March, Social Residence spoke about operating with Grande on the Thank U, Subsequent album, saying that their collaborations had been “organic.”
“We had been all sitting with each other, just speaking about what was going on in life, and how everyone felt. And Ari gave us the path, and told us how she wanted to do factors, and what [ song ideas] she wanted to do,” Scootie told Songwriter Universe.
“At the time, me and Mikey went more than to the production area and began producing tips. We place with each other some chords and stuff, and then we played it for Ari, and she was like, ‘Yes’ (laughs). And we all went to perform writing it.”
