Our Girl star Michelle Keegan talks animal encounters, male friendships and why her new part in Sky comedy Brassic, left her helpless with laughter
Our Girl and former Coronation Street actor, Michelle Keegan stars as a feisty and fiercely independent single mum in a new comedy developed by and also starring, Joe Gilgun (Emmerdale, This Is England).
Set in Lancashire, the six portion drama, co-written by Danny Brocklehurst (Shameless, Ordinary Lies) attributes the antics of a group of close-knit mates who’ve spent their lives scamming, blagging and performing what ever it requires to survive and also stars Hollywood’s Dominic West as the neighborhood GP.
Joe plays bi-polar Vinnie, whose loyal finest pal is Dylan (Ripper Street’s Damien Molony) although dodgy mechanic JJ (Parth Thakerar), champion kebab-eater Cardi (Tom Hanson), sex-dungeon owner Tommo (Ryan Samson) and Irish traveller Ash (Aaron Heffernan) make up their tight group of chums.
Right here in an exclusive interview with Television Instances, Michelle Keegan who stars as Dylan’s girlfriend, Erin, tells us why operating on the comedy was the craziest job she’s ever had and talks bizarre animal encounters and attacks of the giggles…
What created you want to get involved?
Michelle Keegan: “I knew I wanted to be in it as quickly as I study the script. It is pretty uncommon that I laugh out loud but I did with this. I did a bit of comedy on the series Plebs, but it was only 1 episode and it was some thing I wanted to do additional of. I’m also a significant fan of Danny Brocklehurst, who helped create the series with Joe and who also wrote Ordinary Lies that I was in a couple of years ago. Joe, who’s sprinkled his astounding uniqueness on it, and Danny, have developed some thing seriously specific collectively and I can honestly say there’s nothing at all else like it on Television.”
Inform us about your character Erin…
MK: “She’s a single mum who hasn’t had the finest start out in life but who is desperate to give her small boy Tyler the possibilities she under no circumstances had. She’s in a connection with Dylan (Ripper Street’s Damien Molony) who she definitely loves but she’s continually frustrated for the reason that he’s generally becoming led wildly astray by Vinnie. The 3 of them, Erin, Vinnie and Dylan are in this type of triangle collectively. Erin seriously desires to be with Dylan but he’s pushing her away by picking out Vinnie all the time.”
What did you like most about playing her?
MK: “I adore playing feisty roles and Erin is unquestionably feisty but as the series goes along you see her vulnerable side, which no-1 seriously expects so I loved that as properly.”

How was it becoming in your initially complete comedy series?
MK: “It’s the craziest but funniest issue I’ve ever worked on. There was so a great deal laughing on set. There’s a scene later in the series exactly where Erin’s brother arrives and I couldn’t basically appear at anyone’s face for the reason that I was laughing so a great deal and we have been below stress to finish filming. You will notice I’m either seeking down or seeking away. To be fair, that is what it was like on a each day basis filming Brassic!”
Animals function really heavily in the series.Which was the funniest animal scene to film?
MK: “We did 1 with some llamas, I’ve under no circumstances been close to 1 just before but the 1 we had on set was pretty cute. We have been performing a significant fight scene but for the reason that llamas do not like noise we have been acting out the cheering, clapping and shouting in total silence so we didn’t spook it. The entire issue was pretty surreal to do.”
What was it like operating with Joe?
MK: “I’d watched Joe in Emmerdale and This is England, but under no circumstances met him just before, and he’s just hilarious, so we had such a terrific time. There’s under no circumstances a dull moment with Joe. You could be seriously quiet in make-up possessing a cup of tea and he’ll come in, 100 miles an hour and will lift your power so a great deal it lasts for the rest of the day! He’s a brilliant actor, I in some cases forgot my lines for the reason that I was so into what he was performing and watching him, it would throw me.”
What was it like becoming in a predominantly male cast?
MK: “I’m made use of to it! I do not know if it is in my contract or some thing! (laughing) I want to speak to my agent for the reason that for some cause for the previous 4 years, I only look to perform with lads. But, honestly, we all get on so properly. We’re all mates and I’ve generally been a bit of a tomboy anyway.”
Did you all socialise collectively soon after a day of filming?
MK: “Yeah, we have been all staying in the exact same block of flats in Manchester. What tended to occur was through the week we’d be very good and remain in and study our lines for the subsequent day, or perhaps just go for a quiet meal. Then at the weekend any one who was about may well go out for a couple of drinks. We had a seriously enjoyable evening out in a pool bar in Manchester 1 weekend.”
