We just discussed one particular of the exclusive clips from the ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey – the clip was of Harry receiving emotional about how his mother was harassed by the press all through her adult life. Harry and the ITV documentary draw parallels in between the harassment Diana faced and the harassment Meghan faces now. As I stated, there are important parallels to be drawn. But as I’ve also stated a couple of instances now, I feel it is the incorrect fight to make the smear campaign against Meghan JUST about “press treatment” or “press bullying.” That is element of it, of course. But it is also just a racism, anti-Americanism and sexism, and let’s not overlook that it is not ALL coming from the press. It is coming from inside the palace as well, you know? Which is adequate to make me really feel helpless on behalf of the Sussexes, so think about how they really feel. That is specifically what occurred in the course of this ITV documentary – Tom Bradby asked Meghan how she’s dealt with all of this bulls–t.

She’s really fighting back tears as she spoke, saying: “Any lady, specifically when they’re pregnant, you are truly vulnerable, and so that was produced truly difficult. And then when you have a newborn, you know. And specifically as a lady, it is a lot… So you add this on leading of just attempting to be a new mom or attempting to be a newlywed. It is um…yeah. I guess, also thank you for asking since not several people today have asked if I’m okay, but it is a quite true point to be going by means of behind the scenes.” When asked if she’s “not truly okay” and no matter if there’s truly been a struggle, she says “yes.”
I could create a diatribe about how girls of colour are all as well frequently place in the position of obtaining to defend their personal humanity, specifically when strong people today and strong structures abuse them and marginalize them. But I will not create that diatribe since a million people today can do it far better than me. I will say this: this documentary appears to be a alter of tack for the Sussexes. Just after attempting to manage the smear campaign by ignoring it or utilizing Individuals Magazine to alter the narrative, it is like Harry and Meghan have decided (more than the previous month) to straight address it. And that is fascinating to me.
